Our Food...Only An Image Of The Past!

With chemistry having replaced our organically produced liquid sweeteners, it is hoped that the decades old intrusions of similar additives will be removed from all of the foods we eat so that we may return to the times real foods.

Building an Artificial Intelligent Unmanned Unicycle

Is it possible to build an unmanned artificial intelligence unicycle? We know it is hard for the human being without practice to ride a unicycle, because it takes balance and coordination.

New York City Blizzard of 2006

This article summarizes the record-setting Blizzard of 2006 that buried New York City and much of the tri-state region in February 2006. It discusses this historic storm from start to finish.

Just What is Science?

Just what do we mean when we say science? It conjures up images of people in white lab coats carefully measuring colorful liquids in odd shaped flasks.

Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis is something that sounds as if it is right out of the science books in a local high school. While many of the less scientific people of this world never stop to think about the process of reverse osmosis, it is a very real entity of our daily lives through the process of water filtering.

Paternity Dna Testing

Paternity DNA testing is a reliable way to determine the true paternal identity of a child, and generally provides 99.9% accurate results. Paternal DNA testing is legally binding and can be used to solve legal issues surrounding the true birth parents of a child, such as alimony, visitation, etc.

Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis is based on the process of osmosis. Osmosis involves the selective movement of water from one side of a membrane to the other. Reverse osmosis is also known as hyper filtration. It is the same process as used by a human body to filter out contaminants. Particles or impurities can be removed from a solution through the process of reverse osmosis. The solution is passed through a semi-permeable membrane. The semi permeable membrane allows the passage of water but rejects ions like sodium and calcium or contaminants like bacteria or urea. Gore-tex is a common semi permeable membrane. Gore-tex fabric contains an extremely thin plastic film into which billions of small pores have been cut. The pores are big enough to let water vapor through, but small enough to prevent liquid water from passing through.

At Home DNA Testing

Used in high-profile criminal investigations and paternity cases, deoxyribonucleic acid, commonly known as DNA, testing has now been popularized to prove relationships between individuals. The evolution of the test in past years has turned DNA testing into a popular tool for determining ancestry. The test also helps in determining if two people are related or descend from the same ancestor. Although DNA has been around for many years now, the cost has dropped enough to be affordable to average individuals interested in tracing their roots.

Endangered Species in the Caribbean

The Caribbean's exotic plants and animals are a large part of the natural beauty which attracts many international visitors to the region. In fact, one third of the area's wildlife and plants are found only there. Unfortunately, many native species are either endangered, threatened or, in some cases, already extinct.

Making Biodiesel For Fun and Savings

All of us have a little chemist in us that likes to come out and play. Experimenting with different concoctions is part of what makes cooking so much fun, but can you imagine a chemistry experiment that could end up saving you thousands of dollars on your gasoline bills?

Beating the High Price of Gasoline with Biodiesel

With the price of traditional fuel rising faster everyday, people everywhere are looking for alternatives. Electric cars were once touted as the way to save the environment and beat the cost of gasoline, but they are so expensive that very few people can afford to save money by purchasing one.

What is Biodiesel?

Biodiesel is the fuel of the future, available today. This clean burning fuel alternative is produced from domestic resources, such as soybeans, that are entirely renewable.

The Day the Mercury Stayed Below Zero in New York City

While the temperature rarely drops below zero degrees Fahrenheit in New York City, this was not the case in the 19th century. During this period, below zero temperatures would at least once every few years if not more. However, Monday morning, January 10, 1859 was a meteorologically historic day for New York City. That day the temperature failed to rise above zero for the 24 hours.
